Guided Tour: Multiple Locations
As well as finding distances between one location and many locations, MileCharter can find all the distances between two groups of locations.
Finding Distances between Multiple Depots and Customers
This example finds all the distances and travel times from all of a company's supply depots to a group of customers. Both the depots and the customers are distributed through the north-eastern USA and Canada.
This map shows the locations. The depots are marked with red squares, and the yellow faces are customers. The depots and customers are stored in different pushpin sets. The locations can be entered manually or imported with Microsoft® MapPoint®'s Data Import wizard. The roads are not displayed for clarity.
MileCharter is started. The pushpin set containing the depots is selected for the start locations. The pushpin set containing the customers is selected for finish locations. Distance and travel times are selected with units in miles and hours:minutes. Compute is pressed to start the computations.
This is the resulting table of the travel times (hours:minutes:seconds) from the supply depots to the customers.
Note that these are small tables that only take a few minutes to calculate. Customers routinely use MileCharter to compute similar tables with hundreds or even thousands of locations.
Next, we use rate tables to apply sophisticated cost schedules.
